Wilko set to make town debut at The Mall Blackburn

Retail giant Wilko is set to make its Blackburn debut at The Mall after signing a ten-year lease on the shopping centre’s former BHS store.

Set to open in the first half of 2017, Wilko is now poised to begin refurbishment on the entire 25,000 sq ft ground floor retail unit.

The announcement comes at an exciting time for Blackburn shoppers after The Mall recently announced the imminent arrival of Burger King, El Taco Loco and Krispy Crème as well as the opening of Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe and its second Costa Coffee.

Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: “I am delighted to announce that Wilko is coming to Blackburn after a wonderful year here at The Mall.

“Our plans to continue to add variety through household names stores such as Wilko, as well as high quality independent retailers, have really gathered momentum this year and the future looks very exciting.

“Work will soon start to transform the former BHS store and we look forward to confirming an opening date in the New Year.”

JK Wilkinson opened his first store at Charnwood Street, Leicester in 1930. Today it has more than 370 stores with more than four million shoppers visiting every week.
