We need your help: Creative Spaces and Random Acts of Kindness

Creative Spaces

We are writing to remind you of our current / upcoming projects and asking if you can help!

Creative Spaces

In partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Council, funded by Recovering High Streets funding, we are delivering ‘Creative Spaces’ a project of 13 newly commissioned or existing artworks linked to the theme of ‘community’ located around Blackburn town centre, and on display for at least 12 weeks.  It’s to creatively animate empty spaces, inject life and colour in public spaces, and turn the town centre into an interesting, engaging, public art gallery for the summer, attracting people into the town centre safely.  This is further helped by the National Festival of Making’s Of Earth & Sky installations, with lines from poetry written by the local community installed in various media around the borough.

I have locations for 12 of the 13 artworks, which include empty shop windows, street furniture, the bus station and a market stall.  I am having difficulty finding a location for one artwork – ‘Inclusive Community’ a self-portrait, oil on canvas (120cm x 100cm x 5cm), of a local fine arts student, which highlights deaf and disabled people in a vibrant, positive way.  Can you help by providing a space for this artwork?

Random Acts of Kindness

To mark (hopefully) moving to Step 3 of the roadmap, and to continue to spread positivity throughout the town centre, as you know we are delivering ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ during the w/c 17 May 2021.  We will do this with the help of a Fairy Godmother roaming character, but we will also be having (thanks to BID members) some treats / gifts placed around the town centre for people to find, with a ‘Random Act of Kindness’ gift card, crediting that business.

We’ve already had some fantastic offers of support and donations for the Random Acts of Kindness.

Please can you let me know if there is anything you would like to donate to the campaign, to be given out to a visitor(s) to the town centre that week, either by the Fairy Godmother or smaller gifts / treats which can be located around the town centre to be found.

The plan is to also surprise people by paying for things as a random act of kindness – paying for someone’s coffee, their car parking, or their haircut.  If you would be happy for us to visit your business during the week and have our Fairy Godmother pay for one or more customers products / services, please let me know.  Also, if you have a particularly deserving customer in mind to receive an act of kindness (I know that is less random but they don’t need to know that!), please let me know.
