The Hallé is once again bringing a spectacular programme to King George’s Hall for the Blackburn Classics and it looks as exciting as ever.
As the Hallé are nearing their 160th season, ranking among the UK’s top symphonic ensembles with a distinguished history of worldwide acclaimed performances, King George’s Hall annouces their five-part season packed with well loved symphonies and moving arias.
The season starts with an all-Russian programme with Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky compositions taking centre stage, conducted by ‘one of the most versatile and passionate conductors of his generation’ Pablo González. He returns to Blackburn with the OBE recipient and founder of the Camerata Ireland Barry Douglas on piano.
‘One of the foremost composer-conductors of his generation’ Ryan Wrigglesworth returns, moving through the ‘heavenly’ combination of Mozart and Mahler. The versatile composer will start the programme on the piano with a guest appearance from a leading soprano to interact in Mozart’s aria ‘Ch’io mi scordi di te’ with Mahler’s concluding Fourth Symphony in the second act..
The Hallé’s welcomes 2018 with their traditional New Year Viennese Concert including the ‘Waltz King’s’ most celebrated Die Fledermaus. Lancashire-born composer Stephen Bell is accompanied by the enchanting soprano Jennifer France, nominee in the Young Artist Category at the 2017 International Opera Awards, performing arias and songs of the period.
Also, later in the season, King George’s Hall is thrilled to welcome ‘old friends’ the award-winning Manchester Camerata. The Orchestra was recently named best ensemble at the Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) Music Awards.
