Slice of history at Spiritualist Centre

An archive exhibition relating to the history of the Spiritualists in Blackburn will be open to the public as part of the Blackburn Heritage Festival on Saturday 12th September from 11am – 3pm.

Visitors will be able to discover the new purpose-built building on Prince’s Street including healing rooms, the church, a mediums’ room and catering and conferencing facilities.  The Spiritualist movement was originally founded in the 1800s in the original Spiritualist Temple which was on St Peter’s Street.

Blackburn Heritage Festival organiser, Harriet Roberts, said, ‘The collection of archives and photographs on display is truly remarkable.  I didn’t realise that Spiritualism had Victorian roots and had such a strong following in the town that long ago.’
