Shoppers are being urged to support Blackburn’s independent traders as Small Business Saturday returns this weekend.
Saturday, December 5 is independents’ day across the UK as towns and cities champion local traders in a national event called ‘Small Business Saturday’.
The nationwide campaign, which is designed to raise awareness of small companies, also helps boost business by encouraging more people to shop locally.
Blackburn’s Business Improvement District is backing the initiative and urging the town’s residents and visitors to show their support on the day and beyond. Manager of the Blackburn BID, Harriet Roberts, said: “We want to make sure people in the town have heard about Small Business Saturday, which encourages people to shop locally on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
“Visitors can find a myriad of high quality retailers, boutiques and quirky cafes dotted around the town offering personal service and specialist knowledge. There’s also a range of thriving creative industries and professionals who will tell you that there’s a tangible buzz about doing business in a town that’s definitely on the up!”
Independent retailers in the town include shops within The Mall as well as the surrounding streets, such as Darwen Street, Fleming Square, St’ Peter’s Street, King Street, Northgate and King William Street.
