The Blackburn branch of the Royal Society of St George and the Blackburn BID are teaming up to promote the town’s St George’s Day shop window-dressing competition.
To be in with a chance of winning the annual trophy from the Royal Society of St George, shopkeepers across the town centre are being asked to deck out their windows with decorations to suit the theme.
The Royal Society of St George will be judging the windows on Wednesday, April 27 and are looking to find the most innovative and fun St George’s Day display.
The competition, which is usually held in Blackburn Market, has expanded across the town centre to tie in with the Blackburn BID’s Here Be Dragons event.
Deputy Chairman of the Blackburn Royal Society of St George, Michael Pilkington, said: “The competition is a great way for retailers to get involved with the St George’s Day celebrations. St George’s Day hasn’t fallen on a Saturday for many years so we are pleased to be working in partnership with the Blackburn BID to make it a special occasion for all.”
On Saturday, April 23, visitors are invited to follow a dragons’ trail for free live theatre and musical performances with human size puppet actors around the town centre.
Manager of the Blackburn Business Improvement District, Harriet Roberts, said: “This is an easy way for businesses to get involved in the Here Be Dragons event this Saturday to make it bigger and more fun for visitors. The free event is set to be a great day out for the family and we hope local businesses will get on board.”
The line-up of seven theatrical dragons brings together a range of internationally acclaimed production companies and includes shows in The Mall, Blackburn Market and on the Cathedral Grounds.
