Sharp musician aims to scale the heights with new venture

Two local musicians have turned a former clothing store based in the heart of the Blackburn BID area into a ‘musical hub’ for local performers.

McNally Music Tuition has five practice rooms spread over three floors and offers contemporary one-to-one tuition in everything from drums and piano to guitar and singing.

Owner of McNally Music Tuition, Philip McNally, teaches music to Manchester’s budding performers each week and he aims to bring a more dynamic music scene to Blackburn. He said: “The music tuition project, which started around 18 months ago, aims to bring discounted music lessons to Blackburn with the emphasis being put on a fun learning experience. The project also intends to turn the centre into a creative hub for musicians to socialise as this isn’t something widely available in the town.”

McNally Music Tuition is also working with exam boards ABRSM and Rockschool for those who wish to study for music grades although this is completely optional.

The newly refurbished music centre has four full time teachers and will be open six days a week from Monday to Friday 11:00 am – 9:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm.

Manager of the Blackburn BID, Harriet Roberts, welcomes the latest addition she said: “Having such an interesting business in the centre of the town is another step towards having a thriving mix of businesses, shops and restaurants. The centre is also based in the Sudell Cross area where many new businesses are being supported by the BID.”

McNally Music Tuition, which opened to the public on July, 20, is also holding an open day at the Blackburn BID’s Heritage Festival on Saturday, 12 September. Visitors will be given the chance to experience live music with four local acts performing and guitar workshops.
