Ready, Steady, Sew for The Mall’s Heritage Celebrations

A celebration of Lancashire’s rich roots in cotton will take place in The Mall Blackburn as part of the Heritage Festival celebrations this weekend.

The Mall has teamed up with Mum’s The Word co-founder Caroline Fotios to bring the traditional crafts back to life in Victoria Court from 10.00am until 4.00pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Master quilter Barbara Nichols will be hand stitching a patchwork quilt throughout the weekend and will talk to shoppers about her art. Once complete, the quilt will be donated to The Mall’s chosen charity Nightsafe.

Caroline will also be bringing sewing volunteers from Friends for Life at Highcroft, who will be making reusable shopping bags from beautiful Clark & Clark fabric.

The bags, which can be made to order in The Mall all weekend, will be sold for just £2, with £1 donated to Nightsafe and £1 to Blackburn Foodbank.

There will also be a whole host of cotton crafts, colouring tables, face painting and much more available for little shoppers throughout the weekend.

Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: The Blackburn Heritage Festival is a unique opportunity to celebrate the glorious past the town has and we are delighted to be supporting it once again.

“We wanted to commemorate our roots and show off the talents of local people so we partnered with Caroline at Mum’s The Word to bring together the finest craftspeople.

“We can’t wait to see the town be transformed into a lively celebration of the past and we are proud to be part of it.”

Mum’s The Word specialise in new, value for money school uniforms and collecting and issuing pre-loved uniforms. Founder, Caroline, will also be in The Mall Blackburn throughout the Heritage Weekend celebrations.
