Get involved in Paint The Town @ Home

Because of the ongoing uncertainty due to Covid-19 , the Paint The Town Team have decided to run this year’s event as ‘Paint The Town @ Home’.

The event, organised by The Bureau Centre for the Arts and supported by Blackburn BID, is going to take place on Saturday 30th May, and there are going to be some fantastic online workshops and demos from professional artists that you can access for free in the coming weeks in the run up to the event.

Artists still need to register, we still want you to make an artwork in a day, there are still prizes to be won, but this year we want you to create an artwork connected to the people, places or architecture of Blackburn from the comfort of your own home or garden.

We know that doing this without travelling into Blackburn presents some new challenges, so to manage this and ensure you all stay safe, you can use digitally sourced references e.g. photos, historical information or simply paint/draw or create in your chosen medium the view from your window (if it’s within the Blackburn and Darwen area), or capture the people within your household (also within Blackburn).

This year we aren’t asking for a set registration fee, just a small donation if you can, to help support The Bureau during this difficult time. We want this to be a really fun, enjoyable creative event for everyone, as such we have decided to include two categories for the Under 18’s with small prizes being awarded. We’ve also added a new category for anyone wanting to submit a digital artwork or photograph.

We will use our social media platforms to promote the event and share your work as it progresses throughout the day. We will also be focussing on sharing your profiles and promoting you as artists, sharing your work, information about your practice and images of any past pieces you would like to share with the public.

We are also hoping that the braver among you will consider doing some ‘live’ video on the day of the event showing followers and fellow registered entrants what you are creating.  As you know Paint the Town offers opportunities for people to see artists at work and we still want to retain this element.

We plan for this to be a lively, fun, interactive day where people come together digitally and share within the event, we think it will be something really positive to share with people during this difficult time.

I really hope you will consider taking part and encourage fellow artists, friends and family members to join in too.  The event is open to all ages and abilities.
