Blackburn town centre is calling for artists to sign up to the fourth annual Paint the Town event.
Paint the Town is a challenge to artists of all ages and abilities – beginners, amateurs and professionals – to create a painting, drawing or other artwork in a day within Blackburn town centre.
Details for the rapid painting competition have now been released and artists are being encouraged to reserve their preferred location.
Participants must bring their own materials and will form an artists’ trail for visitors. Trail maps will be available on the day for visitors to follow to watch the artwork being created and discover some of Blackburn’s street art. There will also be a number of free creative workshops on the day.
Participating artists need to register in advance and attend The Bureau Centre for the Arts Event Hub on Penny Street on Saturday 26th October from 8am to have their blank canvas certified with a stamp. Photographers are welcome, but separate rules apply.
Paper-based registration forms are also available from the Bureau, Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, and Blackburn Visitor’s Centre, and payment can be made by cheque.
Artists will then be able to go out into the surrounding town centre area to their chosen location to produce a piece of work. Any size or medium is acceptable, but there is just one day to complete it in.
Kerris Casey-St Pierre, one of the organisers, said: “Paint the Town is growing every year and it is fantastic to see such a wide variety of artwork created of our wonderful town centre.
“We would love to make this year bigger and better than ever and would urge artists to register by signing up via our website.”
All work must be submitted to The Bureau Event Hub by 6pm where it will be judged with prizes to be won. A separate prize category is in place for artwork created within and of the Blakey Moor Townscape Heritage area.
Following the event, organised by The Bureau Centre for the Arts and supported by Blackburn BID, Blakey Moor Townscape Heritage project and Heritage Lottery fund, all submitted work will be exhibited at The Bureau Centre for the Arts and the winners will be announced on 7th November.
