Health and Social Care Levy to be introduced

  • MPs have voted 319 to 248 for the Health and Social Care Levy to be introduced.  The levy which will start as a 1.25% increase on National Insurance Contributions in 2022, will become a stand-alone Levy charge in 2023, and will apply to businesses and employees.  It is intended to raise £12bn a year to health and social care costs in the UK.  You can find details of the vote here: https://votes.parliament.uk/Votes/Commons/Division/1088

Vaccine passports in nightclubs and other indoor venues

  • Vaccine passports in nightclubs and other indoor venues in England will be required at the end of this month, the vaccines minister has confirmed.  Nadhim Zahawi has said it was the right time to start the scheme for sites with large crowds as all over-18s will have been offered two jabs by then.  It will mean asking people to show Covid passes with Covid vaccination proof.  The full article can be found here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58452953
