Blackburn Martial Arts Group in running for national prize

A Blackburn Community Interest Company, is a finalist in the Persimmon Homes 2021 Building Futures award.

Building Futures is a £1 million scheme to support children’s health, sport and education & arts. The winners, who will be selected by public vote, could win up to £100,000.

Masters of Martial Arts, based on Lord Street West in Blackburn above McDonalds, is asking for the public’s support with a simple online vote.

The Academy, offers a bespoke full-time training venue, wants to encourage young people to get involved in sport.

Persimmon Homes have joined forces with Team GB – the British Olympic Association – to give away over £1 million to help projects for young people aged under 18 across England, Wales and Scotland.

Phil Turner, who runs Masters of Martial Arts CIC, said: “We are keen to increase long-term participation in sport and help create a healthier community. We see our club as a way for youngsters to gain a healthy start in life and it’s also great to see the benefits in terms of confidence and friendship too.

“You can vote every day and we’d be grateful if you can help bring this prize to our local community.”
