Blackburn BID area based charity Community CVS have been awarded over £300,000 (£313,595) from the Reaching Communities Big Lottery Fund to deliver its “Ways to Well Being Project” over 3 years across Blackburn and Darwen.
The “Ways to Well-being” will enable 360 Borough residents facing severe & multiple disadvantage to take actions to improve their well-being and resilience, enabling them to release their potential as Community Volunteers through the support of Peer Mentors.
The Big Lottery Fund Reaching Communities Grant is awarded to projects that create lasting and sustainable changes to places and spaces, assist Communities to develop happier and stronger relationships with each other and encourage taking action to focus on the root causes of social problems to tackle them at the earliest possible stage.
The Project is based on the Five Ways To Well-Being which are; Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give
The Project will create a Borough wide legacy by enabling participants to achieve and sustain positive change in their life. It will help them reach their potential so they can then thrive in the communities where they live and thus, in time, go on to help others do the same.
Kate Lee, Community CVS’s Volunteer Manager said;
“Our Project, which we successfully piloted during 2016/17, will enable Borough residents to create long term changes in their own well-being. Through peer support networks, community activities and volunteering opportunities, we will help create more resilient communities by helping project beneficiaries become more resilient themselves. By helping those people facing severe and multiple disadvantage develop better relationships and life chances, they themselves will improve the chances and resilience of the communities in which they live.”
