Extension to roll out of Lateral Flow COVID tests for town centre workers

There has been an extension to the rapid turnaround, lateral flow testing in Blackburn town centre for town centre staff.

All staff will be able to turn up and get a Covid-19 test at King George’s Hall between 10.00am and 6.00pm from Monday 4th January 2021 and Friday 8 January 2021 – as part of efforts to get the virus under control in the borough.

Known as a Lateral Flow Test, the results for these can be given in around 30 minutes, as they don’t need to go to a laboratory for testing. Up to a third of people may display no symptoms, but are still infectious.

The tests are not compulsory, but people are encouraged to get a test as they can help to break the chains of transmission in areas like Blackburn with Darwen and help to bring down infection rates – and restore some normality to our Borough.

This new testing programme is being co-ordinated by the Lancashire Resilience Forum, and involves logistics support from the army. It is part of the government’s national drive to continue to increase testing.
