Lancashire’s got style winners are runway ready

The votes have been counted and the seven winners of The Mall Blackburn’s county-wide competition, Lancashire’s Got Style, are ready to make a real style statement!

Three of the seven winners are from Blackburn, including Olivia Digner, 7, Natasha Shaw, 44, and Margaret Golding, who at aged 75, will be the oldest person to take part in the fashion show with a vintage twist. On the other end of the scale is two-year-old Sophie Morgan from Darwen, who will be the youngest model to hit the catwalk. Christina Hetherington, 33, and Sayf Taj, 17, will be representing Accrington in the competition, alongside Jane Cook, 50, from Burnley.

The Mall Blackburn’s fashion extravaganza will take place on Saturday 13th September and is part of The Blackburn Heritage Festival (Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th September). The Bee Radio presenter Paul Winstanley will compare the event and Miss Blackburn will also make an appearance and introduce the winners to the catwalk as they model retailers’ Autumn/Winter 2014 ranges.

Celebrity guest, Stacey Solomon, will also be offering her thoughts on the latest trends. The former Queen of the jungle and X-Factor finalist will be at The Mall from 12.30pm to 4pm to pose for photographs, sign autographs as well as perform songs from her upcoming album.

Sophie’s Mum, Helen, said: “As Sophie is still so little, she doesn’t fully understand the extent of the competition, but when I explained that she will be able to dress up and wear pretty dresses, she was very excited! She’s such a gorgeous little girl and I know she’ll love dancing to Stacey Solomon!”

Margaret Golding, of Green Park Close, Blackburn, said: “I feel very proud that I’m the competition’s oldest finalist! I still like to look my best and enjoy going shopping and out for lunch with my friends. It’s going to be a great experience.”

Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: “We are delighted to finally have our final seven to represent our county and the number of entries proved that Lancashire really has got style!

We can’t wait to see all our fabulous winners on the catwalk and we are looking forward to welcoming the beautiful Stacey Solomon to Blackburn. The whole town is going to come alive over the weekend. The Mall’s fashion shows are always a big hit and this year is set to be the best yet.”

Celebrations will continue in The Mall Blackburn on Sunday 14th September, where a series of fashion workshops will take place between 11am and 3pm.

Fashionistas will be able to learn how to revamp and revive their old clothing to create upcycled masterpieces at a Fashion Style Surgery workshop. Shoppers will also be able to rediscover the lost art of the old fashioned shave with experts showing off their skills that have been passed down through generations.

There will also be vintage hair and make-up demonstrations from Blackburn College students.
