In celebration of Crawshaws’ butchers opening its new Blackburn store, the fresh meat and food to go retailer, teamed up with Blackburn Life in a bid to find the best Sunday cook who can ‘Boast the Best Roast’.
For the last two weeks residents have been sharing pictures and stories about their Sunday culinary creations. From traditional succulent roast chicken to the more adventurous herb crusted rack of lamb, proving that the people of Blackburn really are bold in the kitchen.
After much mouth-watering deliberation, 20 year old, Jordan Brown, has been crowned as the Blackburn cook who truly does ‘Boast the Best Roast’. Blackburn’s store manager, Ben Matthews, awarded Jordan a hamper of fresh meat worth over £100.
Ben explains; “We’re delighted to have opened our 41st store in Blackburn and to celebrate we wanted to involve our local community in a fun activity. We’ve only been open four weeks and we’ve already had such a positive response from our customers. We all love a good roast dinner and we’re delighted Jordan has won our Crawshaws’ meat hamper, it is definitely well deserved and we hope he’ll continue with his fantastic cooking creations.”
Jordan, who is the carer of his mother, learnt to cook at the age of 15. Sunday roasts have become a regular occurrence as heoften cooks for his grandparents, brother and father, as well as his mum.
Jordan says; “Being a young carer I had to learn how to cook quite quickly as I had to provide for my mum and the rest of the family, but I do love cooking and I must be quite good at it as my Sunday roasts seem to go down very well! I often cook lamb and beef and serve it with my own home made Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes, mash, broccoli, cauliflower and sprouts. I’ll be making a lot more roasts more now I have my large meat hamper.”

It has recently launched a ‘Food To Go Butcher’s Kitchen’, which offers an array of breakfast, lunch time and snack solutions, including 100% chicken fillet chunks and tasty filled baguettes.
Crawshaws Blackburn opened on 16th March and can be found at 4-6 Railway Road, Blackburn, BB1 5AX. Open Monday to Saturday from 7.30am to 6pm and Sunday from 9am to 4.30pm.
