Health Hub Launch at Blackburn Library

A week-long programme of activities is planned to mark the launch of the Health Hub @ Blackburn Library – which aims to bring health and digital support to the community of Blackburn with Darwen.

Monday 3 Feb will mark the official launch and ribbon cutting performed by the Mayor and Mayoress, with representation by Cllr Khan and senior Council members (10-11am).

The launch will be followed by a range of activities for all ages — with age simulation suits; Wii games; VR goggles (13+); sugar quizzes; treasure hunts; grip strength and balance testing; digital story time; book tasting sessions; e-reader machine try out sessions, and more until 3.30pm.

On Tuesday 4 Feb there will be a series of talks from 10.15am until 3.30pm from IPlato, the designers behind the My GP app, with talks about how it will develop in the future; Redmoor Health— the digital champions looking to make health more accessible to all; and BwD Age UK.

Between 10.15am and 12.30pm there will be representation from DWP Disability Employment Advisors (Blackburn) to help you understand your entitlements and how to access them. The Health, Advice, Recovery, Resilience Information (HARRI) team will also be available, along with the chance to speak to the Diabetes specialist team of the Lancs and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust. Come along and learn about Desmond—an app that can help you if you have Diabetes.

Are you a local Carer? On Thursday 6 February BwD Carers will be at the library between 10.15 and 12.30 to give you information about what help is available to you in your carer role.

BwD Community Respiratory Service will be available for anyone who has concerns about their breathing, or a pre-existing condition such as COPD or Asthma.

Public Health and Wellbeing will also be available in the morning to show you what a huge difference Passive Sensors could make to your wellbeing in your home.

In the afternoon, between 1.15 and 3.30pm, the BwD Adult Learning Service will be available to tell you about all the courses you can access to support you on your life journey.

On Friday 7 February more support will be available from the Respiratory team on any of your breathing conditions; and the Adult Learning Team will return with more information on their life supporting range of programmes.

Between 10am and 1.45pm on Saturday 8 February a range of activities will be available for all ages — with age simulation suits; Wii games; VR goggles (13+); sugar quizzes; treasure hunts; grip strength and balance testing; digital story time; book tasting sessions; e-reader machine try out sessions, and more!
