WINNER of the Great British Bake Off, Nadiya Hussain was in Blackburn last Saturday for the town’s midsummer nature themed festival.
Visitors to the Countryside Comes to Town event lined-up at the main stage situated in the new multi-million-pound Cathedral Quarter on Saturday, 25th June to catch a glimpse of the star.
With a jam-packed programme of family fun activities and some fine weather, thousands turned out for the event which brought the sights and sounds of the countryside to town with a varied array of music, street theatre and special guests.
TV character Mr Bloom from CBeebies was amongst the line-up of special guests when he returned to the festival for the second year running with his new band for a 45-minute performance.
Other entertainment at the event, which was tied in with Blackburn Cathedral Flower Festival, was an insect circus museum, live creature handling, a mobile petting farm and music from groups including leading brass band Bombay Baja and Mr Wilson’s Second Liners.
More than four outdoor performers including two human size pigeons, two walking talking trees and mischievous fairies in flowerpots brought the town centre to life with performances throughout the day.
Manager of the Blackburn BID, Harriet Roberts, said: “The atmosphere at this year’s event was amazing. The aim of the event is to bring visitors into Blackburn and I hope it was positive day for traders across the town centre. There’s no doubt that the festival will be back next year. Thank you to all of the volunteers, those involved with the organisation of the event and of course the visitors.”
