The Utilita store in The Mall Blackburn has teamed up with Blackburn Fire Station to promote Gas Safety Week with lots of advice and help for shoppers.
Members of the Fire Station’s community safety team from the station will be in the Utilita store from 10am to 3pm on Tuesday 14th September, then 1pm to 3pm on Wednesday 15th, Thursday 16th and Friday 17th September.
Utilita has produced gas safety cards for people to take away and the team from Blackburn Fire Station will be offering advice about cooking safely and taking bookings for free home fire safety checks.
Blackburn’s Utilita Hub Manager Darryl Haworth and Team Leader Najeeb Hussain are delighted to be backing the nationwide campaign. They have said: “Gas Safety Week is a really important date in our calendar and we are really looking forward to welcoming the community fire safety team from Blackburn Fire Station to help spread the word.
“Many people will be turning their heating and gas fires on after the summer in the coming weeks and it is vitally important that they are regularly checked by Gas Safe registered engineers to ensure they are fit for use.
“There are also lots of safety issues around cooking with gas and we will be talking to shoppers to answer any questions.
“The free home fire safety checks are available to everyone and they cover everything, including advice on gas appliances as well as smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
“Working in partnership with the team at Blackburn Fire Station is a fantastic way to help drive these vital safety messages home.”
Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn, added: “It is great to see Utilita working with the fire service to raise awareness during Gas Safety Week.
“There will be a whole host of advice and information to help people ensure they stay safe this winter and I will certainly be popping in to talk to the teams.”
Gas Safety Week runs from Monday 13th to Sunday 19th September and is coordinated by the Gas Safe Register.
Now in its 11th year, it aims to highlight the importance of safe use and maintenance of gas appliances in homes and workplaces.
