Today the Government has announced that all schools will close from Friday, but provision will be made for the youngsters of key workers.
Speaking at a press conference, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK needs to put downward pressure on the upward curve of the disease by closing schools ‘until further notice’.
He said that to keep the NHS going and to treat the number of rising cases the country needs key workers – including health workers, police officers, social care workers, delivery drivers etc who are also parents to continue to go to work.
He said the Government is asking nurseries and private schools to do the same, and are providing financial support where needed and they are making provisions to supply meals and vouchers for children eligible for free school meals.
Mr Johnson said the closure does mean that exams will not take place as planned in May and June, but that it will make sure pupils get the qualifications they need and deserve for their academic career.
