VAT deferred, furlough, and Nightingale Courts

VAT deferred due to coronavirus (COVID-19) scheme closed

The VAT deferral new payment scheme has now closed.

Businesses that deferred VAT payments due between 20 March 2020 and 30 June 2020 were able to either:

  • pay in full by 31 March 2021
  • join the online payment scheme by 21 June 2021 to spread payments of deferred VAT over smaller, interest free instalments
  • contact HMRC to make an arrangement to pay by 30 June 2021

You may be charged a 5% penalty or interest if you did not pay in full or make an arrangement to pay by 30 June 2021.

Changes to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (Furlough) start today

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has been extended until 30 September 2021. From today, 1 July 2021, the government will pay 70% of wages up to a maximum cap of £2,187.50 for the hours the employee is on furlough.

Employers will top up employees’ wages by 10% to make sure they receive 80% of wages (up to £2,500) in total for the hours the employee is on furlough. The caps are proportional to the hours not worked.  You can find more information about the changes here:

Please note claims for furlough days in June 2021 must be made by 14 July 2021.

Change to Nightingale Court provision.
