A well-known Northwest jewellers is celebrating a 20 year partnership that supports classical music in the region.
Peter Jackson, The Jewellers have been the principal sponsors for the Blackburn Classics programme at King George’s Hall in Blackburn since 1997. The series of concerts brings top orchestras, conductors and musicians to the town including The Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
The programme this year continued with a night of English Classics on Friday 7th April by the Royal Northern Sinfonia with a range of pieces by Elgar, Finzi, Vaughan Williams and Britten and featured a pre-concert talk discussing the evenings programme. Peter Jackson welcomed around 50 guests to the event to help celebrate the partnership’s anniversary. During the evening a presentation to recognise the partnership was made to Sharon Bibby, the manager of the Peter Jackson store in Blackburn, by Councillor Damian Talbot, Executive member for Culture, Leisure and Young People.
Director Peter Jackson said, “It’s been a privilege to be the principal sponsor for the Blackburn Classics series for the last 20 years. We have enjoyed so many incredible performances from world class musicians in the heart of Lancashire and we hope our support has been a key factor in attracting so many big names to the town. We look forward to continuing our support over the coming years.”
Councillor Damian Talbot, Executive member for Culture, Leisure and Young People, said: “This partnership has seen so many wonderful performers and performances come to Blackburn and give people wonderful experiences and entertainment. I was delighted to attend last Friday’s concert and to congratulate King George’s Hall and Peter Jackson for helping continue to bring classical music to the venue and the borough over the past 20 years. I am grateful to Peter for his support.”
The concert series subscription programme offers people the option to enjoy a full season of the concerts from just £68 and full-time students can also take advantage of £3 tickets for each concert.
The final concert in the 2016/17 programme, on Friday 19th May, sees the welcome return of the world famous Hallé with an attractive Slavic-themed programme. Andrew Tyson makes a welcome return to the Hallé with Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto. Technically-taxing and richly melodic, it was inspired by the Polish composer’s love for two women. Conductor, James Feddeck, will also lead the pre-concert talk about the season’s finale.
Details of the 2017/18 season will be published on the 19th May and people wishing to receive information and season subscription discounts can contact the box office.
