Lancashire companies go head to head in virtual quiz, raising over £4,000 for Blackburn Youth Zone,
Blackburn based Cummins Mellor Family of Businesses held their 5th annual ‘BYZ Quiz’, raising money for their chosen charity, Blackburn Youth Zone.
The family business which celebrated its 30th birthday earlier this year, didn’t let the challenges presented by COVID-19 stand in the way of raising vital funds for the Youth Zone.
The quiz, which is usually held at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, was hosted virtually this year and saw 50 teams come together from across the country to raise over £4000 for Blackburn Youth Zone.
Forbes Solicitorsemerged as champions on the night, closely followed by Sales Geek & BNI Vista in joint second place.
The money raised will go towards Blackburn Youth Zone’s ‘Dare to Dream’ employability services programme, supporting young people’s employment opportunities – in the immediate and medium term.
Initiatives like this will be key to ensuring that the UK makes a rapid and full economic recovery from COVID-19, enabling young people to kick start their journey into the world of work.
Commenting on a successful evening, Cummins Mellor Chairman Richard Mellor said: We take our role as a Patron for Blackburn Youth Zone very seriously and knew it was more important than ever this year to raise funds for a charity that makes such a difference to the lives of young people in our local community.
In previous years, this event has raised over £20,000 and although current circumstances have meant we haven’t been able to raise as much this year, our team felt it has never been more important to support our local Youth Zone who have done so much for young people over the years and especially during the Coronavirus pandemic.
We wanted to go ahead with our virtual event to show our support for the amazing work they do and would like to extend our thanks to the 50 teams who gave up their time to join us on the night, helping to make the event a success.
Blackburn Youth Zone is a 21st century youth hub located at the heart of Blackburn, open 7 days a week to young people aged 5 to 25 years old, aiming to change the prospects offered to young people in the area.
