Huge green credentials boost for The Mall

The Mall Blackburn has been awarded bronze membership of The Green Organisation in a move that will see 148 trees planted in the shopping centre’s name.

It comes after The Mall demonstrated the implementation of effective measures to reduce its carbon footprint across areas such as energy management, pollution and emission reduction and recycling.

As one of the world’s leading environmental groups, The Green Organisation works with the United Nations’ Trillion Trees campaign to plant trees in emerging nations around the globe.

The trees provide food, shade, shelter, timber, fuel, education and recreation while the root systems reduce flood risk and prevent desertification.

Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn said: “We are absolutely delighted to be awarded bronze membership of this prestigious, world-renowned organisation.

“We work tirelessly to incorporate green practices into each area of the business including our electric car charging points, plastic bottle recycling initiative, led lighting, water refill station, phone recycling with our ecoATM and none of the waste we generate goes to landfill.

“Being environmentally conscious is part of our commitment and duty to the community we are proud to be part of and the trees that are being planted in our name will go a long way to helping communities in need across the globe.

“We don’t rest on our laurels here at The Mall and we continually look for ways to introduce even more sustainable practices into our daily routines.”

A spokesman for The Green Organisation added: “The Mall Blackburn practice what they preach about environmental concerns and they are actively adopting measures that will continue to improve their environmental performance for generations to come.

“They will be able to use our distinctive Green Apple logo on their literature, stationery, and livery to identify themselves as a company that is trying to protect and enhance the environment.

“As members of The Green Organisation, they will be helping the independent and non-profit group to continue their own environmental initiatives, including the publications of The Green Book – the annual environmental best practice Work of Reference.

“Our work includes organising successful appeals for tsunami orphans, Pakistan earthquakes victims and we has also supplied tonnes of recycled goods, clothing and kit for emerging nations.

“Congratulations to The Mall and its team, we are delighted to have them on board.”

The Green Organisation is an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
