Centre for Cities is tracking the recovery of high streets in Britain’s cities and large towns, as lockdown measures ease across the UK. Their tracker is showing how quickly high streets in the UK’s cities and large towns are returning to their previous levels of activity and the drivers behind it. The tracker uses anonymised mobile phone activity and is updated monthly.
The latest data shows that footfall levels in Blackburn are recovering at a faster rate than in many other areas and so Blackburn appears in the top ten of high streets returning to previous levels of activity, at number 6, whilst some of the UK’s biggest cities such as Manchester and Birmingham are in the bottom ten.
It also shows that there’s been an increase in visitors and workers from the local area, compared to before lockdown, which is to be expected.
