Students and staff at Blackburn College were celebrating this morning after the results improved for the third year running.
Students achieved a 100% pass rate in 22 A-Level subjects with the highest performing A-Level programmes including Accounting, Further Maths, Government and Politics, Classical Civilisations and Fine Art.
The College’s continued success means this year’s students are set to progress to top universities across the country including Lancaster University, the University of Leeds, the University of Manchester, and Blackburn College’s own University Centre where 85% of degrees are awarded by Lancaster University and with over 3000 students in 2016.
Principal and Chief Executive Dr Thomas Moore was delighted with the results.

“Students consistently tell us that the academic support and guidance received from their teachers and support staff is a key reason for their high level of success and in the results of the National Student Survey 2016 of Higher Education Institutions in England, the University Centre at Blackburn College was placed in the top 25% nationally for academic support.”
“Over 50% of Honours Degree students at the University Centre at Blackburn College were awarded a 2:1 or above and 17% were awarded First Class Degrees. Some 90% of Foundation Degree students were awarded a Merit grade or above in July 2016. Almost 100% success was achieved by students on the UCLan accredited Teaching Training programme in July 2016 and 9 out of 10 University Centre students are in employment or further study within six months”.

The College is also celebrating the results of vocational courses where Vocational Science produced top results – with a 100% success rate and over 16 students receiving triple distinction stars (DDD*), equivalent to 3 A* grades at A level. Meanwhile over half of the vocational Level 3 Health and Social Care cadets have achieved the equivalent of 3 A-levels at grade A with a number of learners gaining a place on Midwifery courses at University. Over 50% of vocational Level 3 Childcare learners have achieved the equivalent of 3 A levels at grade A – with students progressing into further study or gaining employment in areas including Primary Teaching and Psychology.
The Chair of Corporation Board Phil Watson CBE congratulated the students across the College and University Centre on their brilliant achievements and thanked all academic and support staff for their continued commitment to delivering high quality teaching, learning and support for students. He was particularly pleased that the extensive range of courses offered by Blackburn College and University Centre are highly valued by employers – evident in the jobs the students enter following their studies.
