A cavalcade of magical characters and mischievous elves bring Christmas Family Parade to town

Blackburn’s packed Big Christmas programme continues this weekend with the Christmas Parade.

Pop Up Entertainment in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council will stage a festive themed parade on Saturday 1st December featuring magical characters from family favourite Christmas tales.

Families and friends are invited to join enchanted princes and princesses, Nutcracker ballerinas, acrobatic elves, Toy Soldier stilt-walkers, Father Christmas, and The Bernese School of Dance, for the next event in Blackburn’s Big Christmas calendar.

The parade will begin on King William Street, making its way through The Mall and Blackburn Market, before finishing in Cathedral Square where the festive characters will gather on stage for a finale of singing and dancing.

There will be two chances to catch the parade: 11:00am and 2:00pm.

Amy Toole, owner of Pop Up Entertainment, said: “We are super-excited to bring something like this to Blackburn Town Centre. Being born and growing up here, Blackburn has never seen anything like this and I am so proud that it is my company providing the entertainment for the Blackburn Christmas Parade.”

Councillor Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration and Growth, said: “The programme of festive events in Blackburn this year really is turning out to be a cracker!

“It was brilliant to see thousands of people fill the town centre for the Christmas lights switch on at the weekend and now we’ve got the opening of the Christmas Markets and the Christmas Parade to look forward to.

“The parade promises to be a hit with families and also falls on Small Business Saturday. I’d encourage you all to come into town, enjoy the free entertainment on offer and support our local traders in the run up to Christmas.”

Nicola Clayton, Chair of Blackburn BID, said: “The Christmas Parade should be an enchanting experience for the whole family. The parade, starring magical princes and princesses, mischievous elves and the big man himself, Santa, will culminate in a free show in Cathedral Square. It will be fabulous, festive, family fun!”

Blackburn’s Christmas Parade will meet on King William Street on Saturday 1st December from 11:00am, with a second parade meeting at 2:00pm.
